We're excited to announce that the City of Perth is upgrading the technology in our boom-gated car parks! This is part of a multi-stage project to make parking in the city more modern, convenient, and user-friendly for everyone - whether you're a casual visitor or an everyday parker.
What's Changing?
We’re upgrading the City of Perth’s 12 boom-gated car parks with new technology to make parking faster, easier and more convenient, including a seamless new pay-at-the-exit system.
The upgrade will improve reliability, flexibility and ease of use across our parking network. Key new features coming soon include:
- License Plate Recognition (LPR) System – All 12 CPP boom-gated car parks will be equipped with advanced License Plate Recognition technology. This means most customers will no longer need a ticket to enter or exit the car park. Your vehicle's number plate will be automatically read and recorded on entry, making access quicker and ticketless.
- Pay at the Exit or at the Payment Machine – Drive in, park, and enjoy your time in Perth with complete flexibility. When you're ready to leave, simply pay the way that suits you best: at the exit boom-gate, or at any of the payment machines located inside the car park – just like before.
- Online Validation from Local Businesses – Local businesses, cafes, and offices will be able to offer free or discounted parking validation online.
- Digital Coupons for Events – Receive discounted or free parking for festivals, markets, concerts, and major events via easy-to-use digital codes.
These upgrades will make our car parks easier to use while supporting local businesses and the vibrant events that make Perth special.
What to Expect During the Upgrade
- Some car parks may experience short-term disruptions, such as temporary lane closures, reduced entry/exit points, or brief changes to payment processes while we install the new systems.
- We'll schedule the upgrade during lower-traffic periods to minimise the impact to customers and provide clear signage and updates at each site.
- Most carparks will remain open and operational throughout.
We'll keep you informed every step of the way with on-site notices and updates here on the website.
